iPhone 17 Pro Max: A Potential Privacy concern Arises from a Supposed Leaker in Ice Universe.
Apple is currently ruling supreme in the iPhone market, but it looks like no one is breaking away from the status quo. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is set to launch this fall as aSeasonal refresh of the iPhone 17 series, replacing the previously launched iPhone 16 Pro Max. A new report from Ice Universe, a respected Apple source, has revealed that the iPhone 17 Pro Max is moving from 8.25mm to nearly 0.5mm thicker than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. This could mean that the phone has more storage space for a larger battery, which Apple has been promoting.
This measurement difference is small—only 0.5mm—so far the iPhone 16 Pro Max has held its حال. It’s too subtle for the immediate public eye, but its other dimensions remain unchanged, including the camera panel which has been almost entirely glass in both models. Apple consistently avoids changing the design of an iPhone unless it would significantly alter its performance, and in this case, the only potential change is to the body, not the camera.
The leak from Ice Universe claims that the iPhone 17 Pro Max is 8.725mm thick, only 0.5mm thicker than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. This 8.725mm measurement is almost as thick as the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is why Apple thinks it might not need as much battery. While Apple prefers to keep the phone slim for portability, the 0.5mm increase could serve as a game-changer by making it appear more premium.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max’s design might also involve a possible change to the camera panel. While the camera has long been dominated by glass with high-end reports suggesting aluminum beneath, the leak claims that Apple might be replacing previously all-glass panels with a mix of aluminum and glass for a larger aperture. A change like this could create a more significant design shift, potentially offering a variety of appeal.
Apple has been slow to update its phones, especially with technical innovations that could offer more dramatic benefits. The iPhone 16 Pro Max already has a reputation for chopping down battery life while offering decent performance, so it’s hard to see how a bigger battery would progress without a significant change. Apple takes its reputations very seriously, and letting the public know just how many things could change in just two models might upset Apple’s HISTORY.
But this doesn’t go to stop the leak from being a clue to Apple’s strategy. The claim that the phone is 8.725mm thick and that the camera panel is almost all glass is just one piece of evidence. The alternative supposition is a “super-slim” iPhone called iPhone 17 Air, which would be only 5.5mm thick but still almost entirely glass. If this model comes out with similar battery life, it would likely fewer the life-extending claim about the 17 Pro Max, which Apple has repeatedly emphasized as having “insanely long” battery life.
We already know that the iPhone 17 Air will probably be even thinner, lower than 5.5mm, leaving fewer reports like this. However, this could mean that Apple won’t as confidently claim that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will outlast its predecessor. It’s hard to imagine that with the potential design change and the increased battery, Apple won’t set expectations for longer battery life. The iPhone 16 Pro Max’s robust performance has already secured its place as the iPhone of the year, so as long as Apple doesn’t change its design, how else will it compete?
