Digitpol’s CEO, Martin Coyne files the 1st of a kind vehicle cybersecurity solution that runs on blockchain. The filed patent consists of a solution designed solely for German vehicles that are connected online to OEM’s and industry partners. The solution will be presented in November 2018.
Transport Security by the Blocks
A blockchain, is a string or chain of digital “blocks” that contain records of each transactions. Each successful block is connected to all the blocks before and after the transaction. This makes the process very difficult to tamper with a single record, at present, cyber hackers deploy methods to bypass strong security, however with blockchain a hacker would need to change the block containing the record as well as all those linked to it to avoid detection, this would mean changing thousands of records. This would add additional security on top of todays standards in cyber security. The automotive industry contains data from vehicles, some of the data is subject to sensitivity as it may contain GPS locations therefore security in essential. The security solution based on blockchain would also introduce early notification of attacks when one single record is tampered with. Early notification is key to preventing further damage.
