Texas attorney Tony Buzbee finds himself embroiled in a complex legal battle involving a multitude of sexual misconduct allegations against music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs and, more recently, rapper Jay-Z. Buzbee represents numerous anonymous accusers, some claiming to have been minors at the time of the alleged assaults. The lawsuit against Combs began with an initial announcement by Buzbee in early October, stating he represented 120 accusers. Jay-Z vehemently denied the allegations, labeling them “idiotic” and accusing Buzbee of attempted blackmail. He further characterized Buzbee as a “fraud” and an “ambulance chaser,” expressing his support for true victims who are forced to witness their stories exploited for profit.
In a dramatic turn of events, Buzbee filed a lawsuit against Jay-Z’s company, Roc Nation, and its lawyers in December 2022. The suit alleges that Roc Nation employed “shadowy operatives” to incentivize Buzbee’s current and former clients to sue him, offering sums of up to $10,000. Buzbee further claims that individuals impersonating Texas state officials, equipped with fake badges, attempted to coerce plaintiffs into filing false claims. He claims to possess audio recordings of one individual admitting to the scheme. Roc Nation has dismissed the lawsuit as a “sham” and a “pathetic attempt” to divert attention. Prior to these developments, in November 2022, an unnamed celebrity, later identified as Jay-Z, filed a lawsuit against Buzbee for extortion. The lawsuit stemmed from a letter allegedly sent by Buzbee to the celebrity, threatening a public lawsuit if a private settlement regarding the abuse claims was not reached. This legal action predates the lawsuit filed by Buzbee against Roc Nation, highlighting the escalating tensions and accusations between the two parties. The extortion lawsuit filed by Jay-Z suggests an attempt to preemptively discredit Buzbee and portray him as opportunistic.
Combs, through his attorneys, has consistently denied all allegations of sexual assault.
