If you are using a rooted and modified Android devices, you may be out of luck when it comes to downloading the official Netflix App from Google’s Play Store. According to a latest investigation by Android Police, Netflix has confirmed that rooted/unlocked devices will be blocked from downloading the official app.

There may be a couple of workarounds here, but when it comes to downloading the app officially from the Play Store, that is out of question for now. Fortunately, those who have already downloaded the Netflix app and are using a modified device will not have to worry. The Android Police report did go on to say that the app, if already installed, is working perfectly fine. Those in need of a new download are unable to get it from the Google Play Store.

Blocking modified Android devices comes with the latest release of the Netflix app, which is 5.0. Those devices which do not show up as being Google-certified will not be allowed to download the app from Google Play Store. The ability to use the app altogether may also be hindered for modified devices in the future, but as of now, that is not a reason for concern.

Where to Download the Netflix App Now?

There are several sources from where you can directly download the app and install it on your smartphone. This way, you can bypass Google Play Store and get the APK of the Netflix app and install. Right now, the only limitation set by Netflix is being able to download their app from Google Play Store.

You could also reset your device back to its original state and not tamper with the Android system to save yourself from any future issues. There is widespread belief that Google is pushing developers to cater to Google standards against piracy and third-party installers, which can be seen by this move.
