Unfriend Notification

You get a notification on Facebook whenever someone sends you a friend request and when they accept yours. But what about a notification every time someone unfriends you on Facebook? What would happen if people started getting notifications about that?

When Facebook had just the ‘Like’ button for people to choose when reacting to someone’s post, there was a lot of demand of having other options as well. Facebook didn’t introduce an ‘Unlike’ option like many people were expecting it to, but rather, introduced a bunch of reactions which could almost convey the same message.

Would an unfriend notification on Facebook be as welcomed? Some would argue in favor of it, while others would certainly hesitate after putting some thought into it.

Cleaning Up Your Facebook Friend List

Most of us have tons of people in our Facebook friend list whom we have never interacted with for years. Maybe we know them from school, work or just random acquittances who sent us friend requests and it was hard rejecting them for fear of confrontation later on.

Confrontation is the key word here. Right now, you are able to just delete someone, rather unfriend someone on Facebook and everything is kept in the quiet. What would happen if that person you were striking off of your Facebook friend list were to get a notification one day that you have been unfriended.

Food for thought right there.

You Can Get a Unfriend Notification on Facebook Right Now

Even though Facebook hasn’t introduced an official feature which allows you to get unfriend notifications, there are a couple of extensions and third-party apps which allow you to find out who took you off their list.

The most popular extension is ‘Unfriend Notify for Facebook’ and was widely popular just a couple of years ago, but we are not sure whether this service is still working or not.

All other apps or services which claim to give you that information are probably just trying to scam you into getting your Facebook information. Which is why it is important to steer clear of any such claims until Facebook introduces that feature officially on their social network.

Would it Really Matter if Someone Unfriends You on Facebook?

If someone has gone to the extent of unfriending you on Facebook without any specific reason, maybe there isn’t any value left in that relationship anymore. Would you really want to go after someone who doesn’t even consider you close enough to have as a friend on Facebook? Probably not.

This is why it is maybe better if Facebook left out any unfriend notification option, which it may be planning on releasing some time later on. People have enough on their minds already and giving them another reason to stress over wouldn’t do any good for the world’s largest social network.

But you never know. Facebook is fond of trying new things and experimenting with its over 1 billion active users a month. We could all be a part of its next social experiment and see what happens to this many people when they get unfriend notifications.

It won’t be pretty, but it will be interesting for sure.
