The wait is finally over and after weeks of rumors, the Apple HomePod Speaker will finally be going on sale on February 9th, 2018 with a $349 price tag. Apple will start taking orders for their new HomePod to combat Google and Amazon from January 26th.
Seeking regulatory approval, Apple was forced to push back the launch by a few weeks. It was expected that the new Apple HomePod Speaker would be launched during the Christmas shopping season, but approvals were still being sought.
The announcement was made by Apple in a post on the official website and also points out that the new HomePod is going to be available in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia
France and Germany will get the Apple HomePod Speaker later on in the Spring of 2018 according to the company’s release.
“HomePod delivers stunning audio quality wherever it’s placed — in any room in the house, playing any style of music. Using just your voice, it’s easy and fun to use, and works together with an Apple Music subscription for a breakthrough music experience, providing access to one of the world’s largest cloud music libraries. Siri, now actively used on over half a billion devices, has developed a deep knowledge of music and understands your preferences and tastes. And with Siri, HomePod can send a message, set a timer, play a podcast, check the news, sports, traffic and weather, and even control a wide range of HomeKit smart home accessories,” the company stated.
Apple touts the device as being the perfect smart companion and stands at under 7 inches tall. Apple HomePod Speaker will be available in two colors: White and Space Gray.
The All New Apple HomePod Speaker is More Expensive Than the Competition
Apple products are always pricier than most of the competitors out there. There’s nothing new about that. Usually the price difference isn’t too much of a difference for you to want to reconsider your decision, but that isn’t the case with the Apple HomePod Speaker.
The closest competitors of the Apple HomePod Speaker are far behind in the price category and may force consumers to really put some thought into making the purchase. Here are the prices of other smart speakers:
Amazon Echo is $100
Google Home is $129
Sonos One is $199
Apple HomePod Speaker is nearly $150 more than the second highest priced smart speaker on this list. It is $249 more than the Amazon Echo and over $200 pricier than Google’s smart speaker. But if you are all about the “Hey Siri” experience, then the Apple HomePod Speaker is the only one that can fulfill that need.
Just remember that unlike other smart speakers, Apple Music is the only streaming service which will work with Apple HomePod at the start. That’s $10/month. Apple might be adding on more services in the future but there’s nothing certain about that till now.
