Xiaomi Redmi 5 Review

We love what Xiaomi is doing with its displays on the latest smartphones. The Chinese manufacturer sometimes makes us want to give up on Apple and Samsung completely. Why pay so much for something you can get for much less? You’re probably wondering how, in my right mind, am I comparing Xiaomi smartphones to Samsung or even Apple devices?

When you have used and tested some of the best and don’t really see much of a downgrade in Xiaomi smartphones, you begin to question all of your beliefs. Trust me, Xiaomi smartphones do everything Apple and Samsung smartphones do, but they just cost a lot less.

I’ll show you why I’m saying that.

Excellent Display Quality: With a 5.7-inch HD+ display, the Redmi 5 has great viewing angles. The resolution is a crisp 1440×720 Pixels with a 2.5D curved glass screen, aspect ratio of 18:9 and 282 ppi.

Chipset & OS: This device has a Adreno 506 GPU, Snapdragon 450 octa-core 64-bit processor and comes with Android 7.1.2 Nougat and MIUI 9 right out of the box.

Memory & Storage: Given the microSD card slot, you can expand up to 128 GB. You will have to use the hybrid second SIM card slot to do this. Otherwise, there are two variants. One with 32GB built-in and 3GB of RAM. Or the second with 16GB of memory and 2GB RAM.

Redmi 5 Camera: A back camera of 12 MP /2.2, 1.25 μm), phase detection autofocus, LED flash,     Geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, HDR, panorama and video recording at 1080p@30fps. The front facing camera is a 5 MP one for great selfies and much more.

Thankfully Xiaomi didn’t take the headphone jack out of this device. Also, the fingerprint sensor is on the back, along with having a 3,300 mAh battery, fast battery charging and coming in four colors: Black, Gold, Light Blue and Rose Gold.

Like most Xiaomi smartphones, the Redmi 5 also has a aluminum body with a 75.9% screen-to-body ratio to give it a modern and premium feel.
