Google has introduced a program allowing you to trade in your old smartphone for a brand new Google Pixel 2. The Google Pixel 2 has not been officially released yet and expectations are that the new flagship will be announced sometime during the first week of October 2017.

Right now, the trade in program is available for the older and original Google Pixel model. Most likely, Google will be extending this plan for the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, or whatever they may be called.

Preording for the new Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL is expected to start shortly after the two smartphones are announced.

For the current Pixel, Google is giving up to $385 back when trading in your old smartphone. This does not mean in any case that any smartphone will be eligible for the trade in program by Google, but the top brands out there should be suitable.

The current manufacturers which Google has as being eligible for the trade in program to get a new Google Pixel and hopefully a new Google Pixel 2 are:

  • Apple Smartphones

  • LG Smartphones

  • Samsung Smartphones

  • Google’s Own Smartphones

  • Huawei Smartphones

  • Motorola Smartphones

Google has a pretty comprehensive list of how much you can expect to get in for your smartphone. I’m assuming that the price finalized would have a lot to do with how recent the model is and the current condition of your smartphone.

Here is a list of the smartphones which Google has listed as currently being eligible for their trade in program with estimated prices:

  • iPhone SE $30 – $143

  • iPhone 7 Plus $68 – $388

  • iPhone 7 $61 – $363

  • iPhone 6S Plus $40 – $264

  • iPhone 6S $40 – $230

  • iPhone 6 Plus $30 – $183

  • iPhone 6 $35 – $143

  • Galaxy S8+ $66 – $345

  • Galaxy S8 $59 – $305

  • Galaxy S7 Edge $40 to $175

  • Galaxy S7 $52 – $150

  • Galaxy Note 5 $61 – $150

  • Nexus 5X $82 – $115

  • LG G6 $35 – $230

Google, Motorola & Huawei

  • Nexus 6P $113 – $165

  • Nexus 6 $35 – $80

These smartphones may always be changed and removed with the passage of time as their value continues to drop. When the new Google Pixel 2 is released, additions such as the Apple iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X may be made. Along with any newer smartphones of the above mentioned brands.

However, it is worth keeping in mind that most of these smartphones would get you a better price if sold outside of the trade in program. But if you are looking for a hassle-free way of getting some money adjusted to the purchase of a new Google Pixel smartphone, this method is the way to go.

How Does the Google Trade In Program Work and What Makes a Smartphone Eligible?

The process of taking part in the Google Trade In Program for a new Google Pixel 2, whenever it is announced, is quite simple. Here are some of the steps involved:

  1. Get an offer for your older smartphone which you plan on trading in with Google

  2. Buy a new Pixel Smartphone

  3. Ship the older smartphone to Google and get refund credit on your card.

This method shows that the price of your older smartphone will not be adjusted on a purchase of a new Google Pixel, but instead, will give you cash back on your card.

Secondly, the questions Google asks in estimating your smartphone’s price are:

  • Storage Details

  • Which carrier it belongs to

  • Does the phone turn on?

  • Does your screen work properly and is free of cracks?

Answering these questions will give you an estimated quote right there on the spot and a pretty good idea on what your options are. It is then up to you to decide whether going with the Google Trade In Program is right for you or not.
